Uganda: Police Deny Frustrating Fight Against Illegal Fishing

Entebbe — Police in Entebbe have denied accusations by Beach Management Units (BMUs) tasked with fighting illegal fishing on Lake Victoria that the Force is frustrating their efforts by releasing suspects arrested with immature fish.

Speaking at Bugonga Landing Site on Friday, Mr Abdul Karim Mayanja, a member of the Association of Fisheries and Lake Users of Uganda, said they impound immature fish and take suspects to police but they are not taken to court.
