THE government has told gold miners in Kakamega and Vihiga counties to suspend their activities following the heavy rains pounding the area. Western provincial mines and geology officer Evans Masachi yesterday said the rains have made the soil soft and the mines may collapse putting their lives at risk.
"The excavators should take extra precaution while carrying out mining activities or suspend them all together because chances of being buried alive are high during this rainy season," said Masachi.
