Ghana: Victim of 'Hit and Run' Cop Still Crying for Justice

The Fourth Republican Constitution expressly enjoins all citizens, regardless of their status in life, to uphold the canons of respect for fundamental rights, civil liberties and the rule of law. The Constitution also affirms equality before the law for all citizens and frowns upon any form of discrimination in respect of gender, ethnicity, political party, among others. Thus any action or inaction that violates any of these democratic tenets should not be countenanced by the society.

Our front page lead story gives an account of a victim of a lorry accident caused by an off-duty policeman, Inspector Richard Adjei Dzoekpe, who after knocking down her victim at Bubuashie, a suburb of Accra, did the unthinkable: he sped off and bolted away, leaving his victim to her fate. Nine months after the incident, Inspector Dzoekpe is walking freely while his victim, Faith Narh, is struggling to foot her medical bills.
