Uganda: Taxi Tales - Weird Things Passengers Say

It is amazing (and sometimes alarming) the kind of things you will hear during a taxi ride. Like when we had a doctor with us. I have to confess it was oddly comforting to think that in this speeding deathtrap, at least we had a doctor on board. Well, that comforting illusion lasted a few minutes more. Only to be shattered by what I heard him saying about a patient.

"Don't let them suspect I'm not around. Let them think I'm in the building with another patient. They'll have confidence in your instructions." That was not the worst bit though. It was what he added as an afterthought. This medical consultant on the phone whose garb I had believed as descended from Hippocrates. "Good luck with the sick child," he ended the call. Good luck? Oh damn, those poor parents were so screwed.
