Nigeria: Anambra Govt, Transport Owners Disagree Over New Transport Levy

Onitsha — Transport owners and operators in Anambra State have disagreed with the state government over the latter's plan to introduce what it called consolidated Emblem tax for all commuter vehicles, lorries, taxis and long vehicles plying in the state.

In a meeting with officials of the state government at the conference hall of the government house Awka, attended by vehicle transport owners and associations in the state, including Urban Drivers Welfare Association, National Union of Petroleum and National Gas (NUPENG), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), National Association of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) among other Sundry transport unions, the state commissioner for transport, Mr. Robert Okonkwo said the consolidated emblem tax would see every transporter paying N3000 and N7000 as consolidated tax.
