We would have ignored issues relating to the recent publication of an interview in the Vanguard Newspaper of 16th November 2011 by officials of UNDP in Nigeria, regarding energy efficiency prospects in Nigeria. However, as protégées of Late Engr Yusuf Ahmed Onogo who was an astute leader in the field of renewal energy, energy efficiency and building services in the country; who extended his tentacles beyond Nigeria by funding research and postgraduate studies for students in this field at leading universities around the world, we decided not to keep quiet in honour of his memory as a champion of energy efficiency.

To set the record straight, this is not an attempt to discredit what the UNDP is doing in Nigeria but as experts in the lighting and building services industry, it is our duty to make sure that accurate information are dispensed to the public domain in order not to compromise the health and safety of the Nigeria people. It is clear that any wrong information could result to serious and multi-faceted consequences.
