Nigeria: Needless Debate On Same-Sex Union

Nigeria appears to have a penchant for devoting so much time and energy discussing or agitating on issues that do not directly affect the wellbeing of its people. History is replete with instances where Nigeria took 'panadol for some other person's headache', or attended a funeral and chose to cry louder than the bereaved.

The latest issue is the comedy concerning the legalization of same sex marriage. Our eardrums have of recent been assailed by this very uncontroversial matter to the extent that the National Assembly chose to sweep controversial topics under the carpet, and conduct a public hearing on an issue that is not amount even to a minor concern. There is no clear and present danger of Nigerians of the same sex publicly seeking to be joined together in matrimony, so why all the fuss?
