Deputy Chief of Mission at the US embassy in Kenya, Lee Anthony Brudvig, said youths from the region being were being recruited to join al Shabaab because they were idle.
He said the impact of the Yes Youth Can Youth Fund to be launched soon to promote youth voices and their livelihoods will be felt beyond Kenyan borders and contribute towards stability of the region.
