Zambia: Drug Enforcement Commission Arrests Two Women for Drug

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested two female Zambians for allegedly trafficking in miraa in Nakonde district.

According to DEC acting Public Relations Officer Samuel Silomba Justina Nakaona, 43, of Kaombwe village and Ireen Nakaona, 38, of Ntindi village in Nakonde were arrested and jointly charged with trafficking in 134 bundles of miraa with a total weight of 52.5 kg.

Mr Silomba said in a statement in Lusaka yesterday that the drugs were concealed in two suitcases and two bags.

The duo was arrested at Wulongo check point in Nakonde on a Lusaka bound bus.

Meanwhile, the Commission in Lusaka has arrested a Congolese for allegedly trafficking in cocaine.

Bapabana Kayembe, 23, of Kuomboka East township in Lusaka, was arrested at a shopping mall for allegedly trafficking in eight sachets of cocaine weighing 0.52 grammes.

All the suspects have been detained and would appear in court soon.
