Nigeria: Child Miner - Implications for Society

Child Labour though not unique to Nigeria, is gaining more grounds with the growing activities of illegal miners. RUTH TENE NATSA looks at the issue of child labour in mines and the effect on children.

Children in all parts of the world have been exposed to all kinds of hardships in order to ease economic responsibilities of parents, but the worst of these is the use of child miners who are exposed to many dangers all in a bid to earn a living and in some cases provide for their parents and siblings. In some cases children have become the earners while parents sit at home spending the earnings.
