Gambia: State House Driver, Five Others Charged With Drug Trafficking

One State House Driver, Karim Njie, alongside Ousman Jarjue, Muhammed Jatta, alias Boy Boy, Adama Kasseh, Alieu Jammeh and Kebba Bojang, alias Dibba (at large), were on Saturday 10th of December arraigned and remanded at Mile Two Central Prison by the Banjul Magistrates' Court presided over by Principal Magistrate Sheriff Tabally, on charges of alleged drug trafficking amounting to 59 kilos of Cannabis Sativa, Conspiracy to deal in prohibited drugs and Dealing in Prohibited Drugs contrary to the laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of offence on Count One, the aforesaid persons on or about the 18th of November 2011 at diverse places in the Republic of The Gambia and within the jurisdiction of the court conspired to deal in cannabis Sativa a prohibited drug and thereby committing an offence.

The Particulars of offence on Count Two states that the same accused persons on the same date between Jalokoto and Somita in the West Coast Region and other diverse places in the Republic of The Gambia, acquired 59kg of Cannabis Sativa, a prohibited drug, and thereby committing an offence.

On Count three, the particulars of offence state that all the accused persons, except Karim Njie (first accused), on or about the same date between Jalokoto, Somita and diverse places in the Republic of The Gambia, contracted the services of Karim Njie in supplying and or transporting for them 66 bundles of Cannabis Sativa a prohibited drug weighing 59kg and thereby committing an offence.

The particulars of offence on count four indicates that all the accused persons on or about the 18th of November 2011 between Jalokoto, Somita and diverse places in The Republic of The Gambia had in their possession 66 bundles of Cannabis Sativa weighing 59kg and thereby committing an offence.

ASP Abdoulie Ceesay represented the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the matter was adjourned to Saturday 17th of December 2011 for hearing.
