Zimbabwe: Zvoma Walks Tightrope

CLERK of Parliament, Austin Zvoma, is fighting for his job of 22 years in the High Court through an application that seeks to bar House of Assembly Speaker, Lovemore Moyo, from entertaining a motion aimed at sacking him.

Zvoma is walking a tightrope after Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Hwange Central lawmaker, Brian Tshuma moved a motion that may result in Parliament sitting as a court to dismiss Zvoma for allegedly failing to properly conduct elections for the post of Speaker of the House of Assembly in August 2008 and irregularly deferring the sitting of Parliament on March 27 this year, following the nullification of Moyo's election by the Supreme Court a week earlier.
