Gambia: Khalifa General Sheikh Ahmad Tijan Nyass Due in Banjul Today

His Eminence Sheikh Ahmad Tijan Ibrahim Nyass, the Khalifa General of Sheikh Al-Islam Alhaji Ibrahim Nyass, is due in Banjul today for a two-day visit. Speaking in an interview with the Daily Observer, the president of the Federation of Jamhiatou Ansarudeen, Imam Muntaha Faye of Banjul said he is calling on all Muslims, especially 'Talibes' (disciples) to come out in their numbers to welcome the Khalifa General to The Gambia.

According to him, the Khalifa is expected to arrive at the Banjul Ferry Terminal today at around 2pm. "On Friday he will attend Friday prayers at the King Fahad Mosque in Banjul and in the same evening he will hold 'Wazifa', 'Hadarat' and conference at the July 22nd Square in Banjul. On Saturday, the Khalifa will lay the foundation stone of a mosque in Brikama, after which he will visit a farm dedicated to him in the area. On Sunday, the Khalifa General will have lunch with the Banjul Muslim Elders at the Imam Ratib's home before his departure," Imam Faye stated. He disclosed that Sheikh Ahmad Tijan Nyass is the 4th Kahilfa General of Medina Baye Nyass.

According to Imam Faye, who is also a disciple of Sheikh Al-Islam Ibrahim Nyass, Alhaji Abdoulie Nyass, father of Baye Nyass had at one time settled in a village called Kerr Samba in the North Bank Region of The Gambia, and as such, his sons and grandsons usually visit The Gambia. He called on all Muslims to attend the conference and listen to the Khalifa General's preaching on Islam, the life of the Prophet Muhammed SAW, as well as the history of Baye Nyass, among others.

The erudite Imam also used the opportunity to disclose to this paper that Baye Nyass was the vice president of the World Muslim League during his time, and he had also served as a member of the Arabic Research Council of Egypt; a member of the Organisation of Islamic Conference; and has over a 100 million followers. He said Baye Nyass bases his entire life on the teachings of the practice of Sunnah of the Holy Prophet of Islam, the Quran and the Tariqah Tijaniya.
