Nigeria: NYSC to Open Distress Call Center

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will soon open its Distress Call Center (DCC) to enhance corps security and easy communication.

A statement by NYSC management said the center is presently on a test-run and officers are receiving training on how to operate the communication gadgets pending the commencement of operation by January.

The statement said that the data of all serving corps members such as state code numbers and locations of primary assignment have been fed into the center so corps members can be easily monitored nationwide.

It also said that the center will allow more effective response to emergencies involving corps members.

The centre will work with security agencies including the police, State Security Services (SSS) and civil defence in its operation.

The NYSC Director General Brig. Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia in September unveiled the plan to set up the center as part of management's efforts to ensure adequate security for corps members.
