Nigeria: Suspected Assassins Kill One, Injure Another in Ughelli

SECURITY situation in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, weekend, heightened, following the suspected assassination of Mr. Sherriff Emakpo, at the busy Afiesere Road Junction on the East/West Road.

Also shot was one Mr. Onos Efekemo, who was in company of the deceased. Efekemo who sustained serious bullet injuries, Vanguard gathered is in the intensive care unit of a private hospital (name withheld) in the area.

The incident occurred about 8:00pm, according to an eye witness account. The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the victims, who drove in the Toyota Highlander SUV, were trailed by the suspected assailants.

He said the victims, who had tried to cross the East/West Road, were intercepted by the assailants, who opened fire on them.

Lamenting that Sherriff, who was in his late 30s was allegedly shot three times on close range, gave up the ghost at the hospital, while Efekemo was receving medical attention.

Also speaking to our correspondent, another source close to the family of the deceased, said the deceased who worked with one of the oil firms, was the only child of his mother.
