AVAILABLE statistical evidence suggests that the cumulative number of estimated Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) infection worldwide stands at over 50 million since the beginning of the pandemic across the globe.
No continent has escaped the virus and its prevalence varies among regions and countries. Within this context, Africa is home to nearly 70 per cent of adult and 80 per cent of children living with HIV in the world, and has buried three quarters of more than 20 million infected persons who have died of AIDS worldwide since the pandemic began.
