Somalia: Galmudug State Conducts Anti-Piracy Operations, Jails Pirates

Galka'yo — Somalia's Galmudug state in central the country on Wednesday announced, it has apprehended a number of Somali pirates in an anti- piracy operation conducted over the past 24-hours by its troops in southern Galka'yo town of Mudug region.

Reports indicated that hundreds of security forces loyal to Galmudug state in central Somalia made on Wednesday massive anti-piracy crackdown in parts of Galka'yo town, arresting undiscovered number of Somali pirates and their weapons.

A senior police officer of Galmudug state confirmed that the arrests took place nearby police station, as the pirates were trying pass.

The official also noted that the pirates have been jailed a prison in Galmudug state administrated part of Galka'yo town. He said they will continue their operations until the overall security of town, where assignations and bombings have been organized by armed groups.

No face-to face combat engaged between Galmudug security forces and the pirates was reported so far during the arrests, which took place near a prison in southern Galka'yo town in Mudug province of central Somalia.
