Nigeria: Minister Offers Scholarships to Two Orphans

The Minister of Interior Comrade Patrick Abba Moro has promised free scholarship for two children orphaned by the Madalla bomb blast on Christmas day.

The children are Nancy Maduka and Master Chiedu both of the St. Theresa's Catholic Chuch, Madalla, the ministry's spokesman, Bem Goong Ben, said in a statement.

The minister announced the offer when he visited the scene of the bomb blast for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation, as well as, to commiserate with relations of the victims of the blast.

Addressing journalist yesterday in his home town, in Benue State, the minister said he will be the "father of the two orphans" as far as their educational pursuit is concerned, saying he will sponsor the two children at least to the secondary school level.

Comrade Abba Moro said his gesture is personal, and that it is not coming from the Federal Government.

Moro denied reports saying the Federal Government has announced plans for "free education for Madalla blast orphans."
