press release

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information condemned today the Sudanese security forces for raiding yesterday offices belonging to the daily Rai Elshaab [people opinion] run by the Popular Congress Party of Hassan Al Torabi, and confiscating its issue on bases of its editorial line opposing to the government policies.

The security and intelligence services have yesterday confiscated the newspapers issue of Monday 2 Jan. and halted its publication. In the evening of the same day the newspaper editor was summoned to the security office to be informed of the security chief's decision to close the newspaper and confiscate its assets without stating any justification for such repressive actions, while a state- linked news website said that the closure is due to the newspaper's violations of professional and ethical standards, adding that the security services are calling on national media not to violate national security in the name of press freedom in Sudan.
