A populist Emperor and ex-pope Constantine the Great (272-337 AD), upon realising that the people he reigned were both Christians and sun worshippers, put in place measures to ensure he appealed to both groupings.

Part of his grand plan involved commissioning the depictions of Jesus Christ with a sun halo around his face in artworks.
