Gambia: Editors Trained On Child Rights Issues

A two-day training geared towards exposing editors on child rights issues and the role of journalists in promoting and protecting child rights ended yesterday at The Gambia Press Union (GPU) Secretariat in Bakau. The synergy, organised by the GPU was funded by Save the Children and facilitated by the Child Protection Alliance (CPA). The interface does not only equip editors on child rights issues but also further enhanced their knowledge on reporting on children issues.

This, according to child rights advocates will to a greater extent protect the children whose stories are highlighted on daily basis in the various news outlets in the country. In his welcome remarks, the president of GPU, Bai Emily Touray reminded participants about the long existing relations between the GPU and CPA. According to him, since the establishment of GPU, it has been collaborating with CPA with a view to building the capacity of Gambian journalists on child rights issues.
