Both Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai were notably absent from the 100 year old celebrations, held by South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) party over the weekend.
The ailing Mugabe was reported to be on annual leave "in the Far East" with his family and not expected back before the end of January, according to the state-run Herald newspaper. The MDC-T issued a statement saying Tsvangirai would be represented by national chairperson, Lovemore Moyo.
