This past weekend, South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) party began celebrations to mark its 100 years of existence.

From the rag-tag political grouping, the South African Native National Congress formed in 1912 by the likes of John Dube and Sol Plaatje, to the pro-active ANC that through the Umkhonto we Sizwe opted for armed resistance against the apartheid regime, it has indeed been a long journey to freedom.
