Uganda: Country Improves in Democratic Rankings

Uganda has improved its democratic rankings, slightly moving from the position of 98 in 2010 to 96 in 2011, according to a report by the Economist Intelligence Unit Index of democracy.

The index provides a snapshot of the state of democracy worldwide for 165 independent states and two territories--this covers almost the entire population of the world and the vast majority of the world's independent states. The overall democracy index is based on five categories: electoral process and pluralism; civil liberties; the functioning of government; political participation; and political culture.
