Uganda: 80 Receive Free Surgery At Kibuli

For close to seven years, Joyce Adokorach has had health difficulties caused by a complication in her neck due to goitre but on Friday, after an hour's operation, she got rid of the abnormally enlarged thyroid gland.

Adokorach, a 28-year-old mother of two is one the 80 Ugandans who benefited from the week-long free surgeries offered at Kibuli Muslim Hospital. The free surgery camp that closed on Friday was conducted by a team of surgeons from Cairo University in Egypt, Kuwait and backed by local doctors. "I have been having problems with swallowing food due to this neck disease but I have faith that I will be okay after the operation," she said shortly before entering the theatre room.
