Uganda: 40 Percent of Boda Crashes Fatal - Police

At least 40 per cent of road accidents involving boda boda cyclists are fatal, the police have said. The Force said, the move calls for urgent intervention, such as the use of helmets.

While 90 per cent of boda boda accident victims die or sustain life threatening injuries, Mr Stephen Kasiima, the Police Commissioner of Traffic said the situation can best be handled through sensitisation and enforcement of traffic rules. "There is need to adequately prepare the end users of the law to appreciate and accept the law ... because helmet use in the sab Saharan Africa is below," Mr Kasiima said.
