Nigeria: We're Ready for Election, Say Akuja, Kwande

Jos — The two major candidates in Wednesday's rerun election for the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, Peter Akuja of the PDP and Suleiman Yahaya Kwande of the DPP say they are ready for the election.

INEC had, in April 2011, declared Akuja as the winner of the House of Representatives seat of the constituency, but Kwande challenged the declaration at the election petitions tribunal and won the petition. But the Appeal Court, ruling on an appeal by Akuja, ordered a rerun election at Dogon Agogo, one of the wards in the constituency on grounds that the dash sign entered for the PDP candidate as votes scored at the ward which INEC says represents zero, suggests that Akuja did not participate in the election whereas he did.
