Maputo — Mozambique expects to export about 17,900 tonnes of farmed prawns this year, an increase of almost 80 per cent on the 10,000 tonnes exported in 2011.
According to a report in the Maputo daily "Noticias", the deep water wild prawn fishery should produce 5,650 tonnes - a figure regarded as sustainable and based on the catches of 2010.
