Kenya: Youths Opt for 'Chamas' in the Search for Capital

The long list of requirements that youths have to meet before they can qualify for a bank loan has led some groups to seek other ways of raising capital.

Focus Investment Self-help group, formed last year by 25 individuals, chose the path of pooling funds rather than go for expensive loans. Mr Paddy Kairu, the group's chairperson, says banks discriminate against new ventures.
