Dar es Salaam — Only if its HIV/Aids free strategy succeeds will Tanzania have a bright future, retired President Ali Hassan Mwinyi has said. Launching a new Voluntary Counselling and Testing centre at Vingunguti Clinic in Dar es Salaam yesterday, he said he believed that no parents would wish to see their babies get the virus.
The centre aims at mobilising couples to attend antenatal clinics for provision of education will minimise mother to child HIV transmission. If the centre's advices are followed, many children may be born free of the infection. On this, special initiatives are made to ensure accessible facilities, as new health centres are put up to offer free services, he said.
