Sierra Leone: NYC, SLCRC Want Compulsory Voter Registration

The National Youyth Coalition NYC and the Sierra Leone Civil Rights Coalition SLCRC have called for voter registration and voting during elections to be made compulsory through legislation. The two organizations consider voter apathy as the most formidable threat to the country's fledgling democracy and civic responsibility which over the years have tilted the political landscape.

"We are of the view that voter registration and voting during elections should be made compulsory through legislation so as to place the mass of our people as a fortification to forestall the stealing of our hard earned freedom," NYC President, Ishmael Al-Sankoh Conteh noted.
