Sudan: Government Denies Existence of Humanitarian Crisis in Blue Nile and South Kordofan

Khartoum — The Minister of Social Welfare and Security, Ustaza Amira Al-Fadil, Saturday received with the visiting General Director of the Red Cross progress of the humanitarian aid being extended by the Red Cross to Sudan, its plans for the year 2012 and the cooperation between the two sides.

Sudan has welcomed the visit of the Red Cross General Director and humanitarian Assistance being presented by the International Red Cross Committee to Sudan as well as the joint operations between the committee and the Red Crescent Society in Darfur region and the Blue Nile State.

Meanwhile, Sudan has welcomed the visit of the General Director of the Red Cross and the humanitarian aid being delivered by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the joint operations between it and the Red Crescent Society in Darfur and the Blue Nile State.

The minister appreciated the humanitarian assistance being extended by the ICRC to the Prosthetic Limbs Institution in support of the handicapped persons.

On the other hand, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Dr. Suleiman Abdul-Rahman, denied in a statement to SUNA the statements of Suzan Rice on existence of humanitarian crisis in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile States.

He said that the state has fulfilled its commitments toward the affected persons and that the situation now is under control, adding that the state efforts in this regard were appreciated by the international institutions.

On reports on food shortages and malnutrition at areas of Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid affirmed the government help and response in this connection, but it did not response from the other party despite the government declaration to cease-fire.

Abdul-Rahman reiterated the keenness of the government that humanitarian aid shall reach needy people; besides its readiness for cooperation with the international community to secure arrival of the humanitarian aid by Sudanese circles and through the national organizations.

He referred to the voluntary return of citizens from the SPLM to areas of the government where humanitarian aid is being provided.
