Single Leg Amputee Sport Club SLASC Tuesday awarded scholarship to amputee footballers and some of their relatives as part of their help through the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon Support Foundation.
The organization's Public Relations Officer, Albert Mustapha on behalf of Ban Ki-Moon's Support Foundation encouraged the players to accept the gesture and try to do something to make their lives better.
"The scholarship is not only for school going pupil but also for other amputee's who are attending skill training institutes. Some of them cannot go to school but can still learn something to improve their lives. As amputees, you have the right to mingle and interact with each other," he noted.
He maintained that the organization was formed few years back with the aim of creating unity among amputees across the country through football.
Mustapha also stated that the organization create friendship among amputees and help them to survive through programs like micro finance, educational support and other personal cancelling.
President of SLASC, Jabatti Mambu thanked the organization for the support, adding, "You have help us to reduce family stress, educate players and enable us find ways and means to get our living."
One of the beneficiaries, Mohamed Sesay expressed appreciation and urged his colleagues to be dedicated and concentrate on whatever they are doing.
"I encouraged you to be more devoted and take sport as your own career," he noted.
