Tunisia: Former Prime Minister Calls for One Year Mandate for Constituent Assembly

Beji Caid Essebsi, Tunisia's former prime minister, called for the National Constituent Assembly to respect the mandate set for a one-year time frame in a statement addressed to the public today, January 26th. He also called for the Independent High Authority for the Elections (ISIE) to resume its work and for the political and intellectual forces to be part of the country's process for reform.

Essebsi stressed the fact that the constituent assembly should draft the constitution and prepare for elections within a period not exceeding October 23rd of this year.
