Chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people in Eastern Province has said he is enjoying a cordial relationship with his Paramount Chief Mpezeni and has described as falsehoods sentiments that he is threatening violence on the Paramount Chief.
The chief has since appealed to President Michael Sata to desist from listening to people who wanted to divert his efforts of developing Zambia because he had never quarrelled with Chief Mpezeni.
Chief Mpezeni was said to have been receiving threats from Chief Madzimawe and senior Chief Nzamane, of the Ngoni people following his calls to have former Republican president Rupiah Banda's immunity lifted so he could have an opportunity to clear himself on corruption allegations levied against his regime.
On Wednesday at State House, President Sata, warned that the two chiefs risked having their recognition as traditional rulers revoked if they did not refrain from threatening violence against Chief Mpezeni.
And reacting to Mr Sata's warning, Chief Madzimawe said in a telephone interview from Chipata yesterday that he was in a good and cordial relationship with Chief Mpezeni and at no time had the two differed.
"Our President Sata's office should be respected because it is the highest office. It is very sad that some people are peddling lies to our Head of State alleging that I am threatening violence on Chief Mpezeni with whom I am currently enjoying a cordial relationship.
"I think, it could have been important for those people who misled the president to also get both sides of the story from me instead of purely misleading the president on false matters," he said.
Chief Madzimawe said he felt bad that some people wanted to cause confusion and dissuade the already existing good relationship between him and Chief Mpezeni.
He said his conscious was clear and was not even worried about anything because he knew he was in an amicable relationship with his counterpart whom he could not betray.
"I can't even apologise to President Sata because I haven't done anything wrong. My conscious is very clear. Let the investigative wings carry out their work to ascertain the truth about this issue," he said
He said currently, he was busy making preparations with other chiefs to organise for the Nc'wala traditional ceremony set for next month and wondered why he was being accused of threatening Chief Mpezeni.
Chief Madzimawe appealed to Mr Sata not to allow some people to give him false information. He was ready to receive the letter from the ministry in charge of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs over the matter and would appropriately respond.
