Lagos — The Lagos State government has given students of the state's owned university, (LASU) concession to pay their fees in two instalments of 70-30 per cent, just as it extended the registration date for all categories of students of the institution for one month.
Governor Babatunde Fashola gave the approval following an appeal by students of the institution at a stakeholder's forum to mark the governor's 1,700 days in office.
Fashola said the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. John Obafunwa had earlier made a similar request.
"The students are our children, we want them in school, and we want
them to have the best of education, " he said.
Daily Trust gathered that in a letter dated, Thursday, January 5, 2012, the Vice Chancellor of the institution informed the governor that the extension of the registration deadline would enable more students to register.
In the letter, Prof. Obafunwa also explained that allowing the students to pay their fees instalmentally, would also ensure a level of discipline on the part of parents and students.
Giving the concession, Fashola reiterated his administration's commitment towards restoring the standard of learning in the institution and urged staff and students to cooperate with government.
