Zambia: KCM Workers Get 17 Percent Pay Rise

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has awarded its employees a 17 per cent salary increment which will see the lowest miner earn a monthly net pay of not less than K3 million.

The increment follows the signing of the 2012 collective agreement between KCM management and the Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) together with its counterpart the National Union of Miners and Allied Workers (NUMAW) at Sherbourne Guest House in Kitwe yesterday.

KCM vice president human capital management David Kaunda signed on behalf of management while MUZ president Oswell Munyenyembe alongside his NUMAW counterpart signed on behalf of the two unions.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Mr Munyenyembe said the increment was effective January 2012.
