The joint team of Government investigative officers has warned and cautioned former High Commissioner to Canada, Dr Nevers Mumba on allegations of abuse of office and corrupt acquisition of public property and revenue.
Public relations officer for the investigative team, Charity Chanda, confirmed the development after Dr Mumba who was in the company of his lawyer, Sakwiba Sikota, appeared before the officers at the former offices for the task force on corruption in Lusaka's Woodlands area yesterday.
Ms Chanda said Dr Mumba was cautioned and warned on one count of abuse of authority of office contrary to section 99 (i) of the penal code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and on six counts of corrupt acquisition of public property and revenue contrary to Section 33.
Ms Chanda said the cases were in connection with the funding Dr Mumba allegedly solicited from Barrick Gold of Canada to fund the Zambia/Canada Cultural Exchange programme during the 2011 Independence celebrations in Canada.
Dr Mumba, who refused to comment on the matter referring the journalists to their impeccable sources in reference to the police, would again on Monday January 30, 2012 appear before the investigations team.
