THE new Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, has warned that his major concern is to squarely face the security challenge in the nation with the aim of reducing crimes in the country to the minimum.

He was speaking during the brief hand over ceremony at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he assumed duty as the new police boss.

Abubakar, who was received on arrival by senior police officers, stressed that 'we shall look at every nook and cranny of this country and do what is expected of us in respect to fighting crime in humanity; this administration will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, act of corruption and I intend to live by example.'

Assuring the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force of his commitment to the welfare of the service, the new IG promised to boost their morale, but cautioned that discipline remains the bedrock of the Force.

He warned that anyone who is not willing to be amenable to discipline as spelt out in Police Act and Regulations and other instruments of operations of the Police will be shown the way out of the Force, while thanking President Goodluck Jonathan for reposing confidence in him and also giving him the opportunity to serve as the Inspector-General of Police.

Also speaking at the occasion, the outgoing Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, solicited the full support and cooperation for the new inspector general.

'It is my sincere wish that you give him the same cooperation that you gave to me; in the wisdom that you have, give him the same support and encouragement as well as the assistance you gave me in order for him to succeed' he said.

According to Ringim, 'I did my best to discharge my duties as Inspector General until the President felt it necessary to appoint a new IGP. However, I had already requested and gotten approval from the SGF to proceed on my retirement leave from yesterday.'

He said his task was not an easy one, but assured the new boss that he would always give his assistance any time he is called upon.
