Namibia: Woman Wipes Out Family

Windhoek — A 35-year-old Namibian woman was arrested in Angola after she allegedly hacked to death her 72-year-old husband and their two daughters, aged two and five, with a machete on Monday.

The deceased were hacked while they were sleeping.

The incident took place on Monday at Onambunga village in southern Angola, where the Namibian family lived.

The deceased were identified as Naftali Monde (husband), Ndeshipanda Ndifikepo Monde, born in 2007 and Pelivavali Etuhole Monde, born in 2010.

According to Edwin Kanguatjivi, Nampol Deputy Commissioner: Public Relations, the remains of the deceased were transported to Oshakati AVBOB.

He could not provide further details as to what led to the incident.

Kanguatjivi revealed that the couple married in 1999 at the Oshakati Magistrate's Court.

Ohangwena Regional Commander, Commisioner Tyves Kampolo, said the Namibian Police received information about the incident on Tuesday, but could not provide further details.

Approached for comment, an AVBOB employee who did not want to reveal her name said family members brought the bodies to the mortuary but did not want to furnish further details except that "they are from the village".

New Era understands that the deceased will be laid to rest at Onawa-Ongenga in the Ohangwena region.

It is unclear whether the suspect, who has been identified as Selma Pelivavali Shingelifa, will be handed over to the Namibian authorities, as the crime was committed on Angolan soil.
