Eritrea: Agricultural Activities in Eastern Escarpment Register Satisfactory Outcome, Say Inhabitants

Seganeiti — The inhabitants of Adi-Feni'a have transformed 30 Km-long escarpment and areas in the vicinity to agricultural land through vigorous terracing activities.

The coordinator of the program, Mr. Berhane Yosef, told ERINA that around 20 hectares of land has been terraced and that water diversion scheme have been carried out through the popular campaign to conserve soil and water resources.

Mr. Tewoldemedhin Gebreyesus, from the local Inhabitants, said that the campaign is part of the development endeavors towards ensuring food security. The inhabitants participating in the campaign further explained that the terraced land is the first part of the program, and that 40 hectares of land in the escarpment remain to be terraced soon, along with additional water diversion schemes.

The head of finance and administration in Segeneiti sub-zone, Mr. Tekie Ayimut, indicated that the terraced land in Adi-Feni'a is exemplary to the inhabitants of other villages, and pledged that the Administration would assist them.

Adi-Feni'e is located 17 km North -east of Segeneiti town.
