We, for a neutral, every Bell Super League match-day comes with all uncertainty you can think of. Will the games take off or will they not, is the question you will find yourself confronted with.
Today is not different. Of seven lined up this weekend, Bunnamwaya and Proline are likely to continue observing Fufa's 'ban' on the league by not honouring their ties against Masaka and Victors today and tomorrow respectively.
News from the local soccer governing body, Fufa, on Wednesday that Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) had de-registered 10 match officials who have been refereeing USL games "illegally" did little, if any, to offer respite to the situation.
Because the same referees will most likely take charge of the games this weekend, including four today, if they all take off. At least that's the vintage view of USL chairperson Kavuma Kabenge, who, together with CEO Jimmy Ebil Ssegawa, were 'banned' and are the reasons Fufa are pulling all daggers at the league because the clubs are apparently still habouring them.
"If you don't recognise the league, so what are you banning?" wondered Kabenge in an interview with the Daily Monitor.
"Have they banned all the referees in Uganda? We are going with our activities uninterrupted."
Kabenge added: "The league will go on and the referees will be present on all matches as scheduled. "You can make your statements but do you have the powers? That's why we said it's inconsequential. USL games will take place. Period. They are not Kabenge or Mulindwa (Lawrence, Fufa president) matches."
Today, Express, second on 31 points, will hope to dislodge leaders URA from the summit with victory over Maroons at Wankulukuku. The reverse fixture ended 2-0 in favour of Maroons.
