Kenya: Matungu Boy Gets Sponsor to Alliance

A 14-year- old boy from Matungu district who had offered to sell his kidney to get money to pay school fees at Alliance Boys High school will no longer need to do so after a wellwisher offered to sponsor his education. Enock Lanya Mulama who was featured on the Kiss100 breakfast show had said he would sell his kidney as his parents were unable to raise the money. An administrator from the Alliance Boys school yesterday said the sponsor, who wanted to remain anonymous, had offered to pay the boy's fees.

An overjoyed Enock and his father George Mulama could not express their happiness. "Enock scored 398 marks and my other son who is now in high school scored 345. I have bright children but the only problem is that I can't afford to educate them all," Mulama said. Enock is the third born in the family of ten.

The family survives on the income his mother makes from doing odd jobs. The first born, a girl dropped out of school in form one after the family was unable to pay her fees.The second born's high school fees is paid by a local church. The rest of the children are in primary school ranging from class two to eight while the last born in the family just joined nursery school this year. Enock emerged the third top student in Matungu district.
