South Africa: Petrol Price to Increase

Pretoria — The retail price of all grades of petrol is to increase by 34 cents per litre on Wednesday next week.

The Department of Energy said on Friday that the price of 0.05% sulphur diesel and 0.005% sulphur diesel will go down by 1 and 2 cents per litre respectively.

Wholesale paraffin will drop by 3 cents a litre and the price of illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will decrease by 4 cents per litre. There will be also be a 50 cents per kilogram increase in the maximum retail price for LPGAS.

The department said that during the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.

The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period 29 December 2011 to 26 January 2012 strengthened to 8.0841 compared to 8.2122 during the previous period.
