Nigeria: Wada Sworn in Amidst Confusion

Captain Idris Wada, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the December election in Kogi State has been sworn following the sack of former governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris by the Supreme Court .

But the ceremony at the Government House didn't come easy following the confusion that pervaded the seat of power, in the confluence state.

For close to four hours, top government officials, including the state chief judge, Justice Nasiru Ajanah and chieftains of the ruling party met with the former governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, to brainstorm on the way forward.

But the division became glaring when it was time for Captain Wada to be sworn in,as some members of the state House of Assembly insisted that the speaker, Hon. Abdullahi Bello should be sworn in.

The members later left the venue of the ceremony to confer with the immediate past governor, before they came back to witness the swearing of Captain Wada.

It was not until around 2.30 pm that the president of the customary court of appeal, Shaibu Ibrahim performed the swearing in ceremony, even as the chief judge, who was earlier at the government House, completely stayed away from the exercise.

Shortly after he was sworn in,Captain Wada,in his acceptance speech, urged all political appointees to remain in office, for a time being, to ensure smooth transition.

He said Kogi has abundant talents, promising to garner them, for the transformation of the state.
