Hundreds of thousands of Egyptians are demonstrating today in what they called "Friday of Pride and Dignity".
This comes two days after the first anniversary of the January 25 revolution. Some called it a "Second Friday of Rage" in reference to January 28, 2011.
Following is the latest in Cairo, Suez, Alexandria, Minya, and Kafr Al-Sheikh.
Cairo
- Hundreds of thousands of Egyptians demonstrating in Tahrir square.
- A march of more than 10 thousand moving from Shoubra headed to Tahrir.
- A march of around 20 thousand moving from Giza headed to Tahrir as well.
- Chants call for ending military rule, transfer of power to civilians, trying figures of former regime, and emphasizing that this is a revolution, not a celebration.
- Scores in a protest in front of State TV building (Maspero).
- A march of thousands in the Southern Cairo district of Maadi.
Suez
- Around 1,500 in marches organized by political powers, April 6th movement, and Suez Youth Bloc in Al-Arba'een square.
- These demonstrations started at Al-Shohadaa, Al-Ghareeb, and Al-Arba'een mosques and the Good Shepherd church calling for ending the military rule.
Alexandria
- A march of five thousand people started at Al-Ka'ed Ibrahim mosque after Friday noon prayer, inspite of heavy rain fall, headed towards a square in Somouha.
- A march of hundreds on its way to the Northern military command headquarters.
- Demands denounce military rule and call for swift transfer of power to civilians.
- Major General Khaled Gharaba, head of security in Alexandria, told Aswat Masriya that "All Alex policemen are staying within their barracks and were strictly told not to deal with protestors."
Minya
A small protest of around 300 in Palace square denouncing military rule. More protestors are joining.
Kafr Al-Sheikh
A march of around 500 started at Al-Estad mosque chanting slogans that call for ending military rule.
