Walking in the central business district (CBD) of Harare has become a hustle as multitudes of people criss-cross the city conducting errands such as vending, shopping, delivering items to offices in town as well as dealing in foreign currency or used cell phones, among other things.
The scene is different from a decade ago when the city centre was relatively "calm" and less populated. In recent months, police have fought running battles with vendors and commuter omnibus crews in operations they have said are aimed at decongesting the city centre.
