Uganda: One Dead, 30 Injured As Bus Overturns in Moyo

One person has died and over thirty sustained injuries when a Moyo-Kampala bound Zawad bus, registration number UAK 934X over turned on Tuesday morning.

Police said the 7:00am accident occurred at Rupi village, Laropi Sub County in Moyo district.

The acting District police Commander, Moyo Ignatius Dragudu, identified the deceased as Richard Asimwe.

He said over 30 survivors including the bus driver Kenneth Nume, were rushed to Moyo referral hospital.

Dragudu attributed the accident to failure of the break system that made the driver lose control.

"Our preliminary investigations showed that the bus over turned due to the failure of the brake system which became hard for the driver to contain the speed," said Dragudu.

According to Dragudu, the driver from his hospital bed explained that he started feeling the brake failure on Monday when he was driving from Kampala to Moyo, claiming that despite raising the complaint to the bus management, nothing was done.
