Angola: Six Nationals Face Deportation From Angola

The Gambia's honorary consul in Angolahas told the Daily Observer that six Gambianshave been arrested in Angola for attempting to enter that country illegally, and will soon be deported.

Hajji Jawara made this disclosure during a recent telephone interview with this reporter from his residence in Angola. He said the six men were arrested by Angolan immigration officials while trying to enter the country through its border withtheDemocratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to Jawara, the six Gambians have been in prison for two months. He also disclosed that four other Gambians are in prison for the same offence. He explained that this is not the first time the six are being arrested for illegal entry to Angola, as they were among eight Gambians who were previously arrested and deported back to The Gambia, but tried to re-enter Angola. "I am not denying any Gambian to travel to Angola but they should acquire proper and valid documents so that they will not face difficulties like deportation or being kept prison," Jawara added.
