Gambia: CPA Coordinator Urges Action Against Child Sex Tourism

The national coordinator of the Child Protection Alliance (CPA), Njundu Drammeh has called on all and sundry to help stop child sex tourism (CST). He made this call during a recenttraining workshop on the Gambia Tourism Authority Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children in Tourism at the Baobab Holiday Resort in Bijilo.

He said that each year, over a million children are exploited in the global sex trade while most often, this constitutes child trafficking, child pornography and the sexual exploitation of children in travel and tourist destinations. He added that the latter is what most refer to as child sex tourism. He said that along with child prostitution, pornography and sex trafficking, CST in particular is a lucrative and ubiquitous practice affecting an estimated two million children worldwide every year. He disclosed that CST is especially prevalent in Asia, Central and South America.
